Summer Learning Opportunities

May 27, 2021

Topic: Student Learning

CCSD21 students will have access to a variety of online opportunities to continue learning over the summer.

These online learning opportunities are available at no cost to students completing the 2020-2021 school year in the district.

We encourage students and their families to visit each of these platforms and explore ways students can engage in personal learning adventures as they seek answers to things that pique their curiosity and use the skills they’ve acquired over the last year to venture into learning new concepts and skills going forward.

Reading and Math Options from Renaissance

All PreK-8 students enrolled in CCSD21 schools this May will have access to myON and Freckle to continue their reading and math growth this summer. Both of these online platforms are self-paced and provide students with recommended activities based on their individual interests and learning levels.

Students can access both myOn and Freckle by clicking the Renaissance “R” symbol at the bottom of their Chromebook screen, or through this link. The User Name and Password to access these services are the same email address and password your student currently uses to sign in to their Chromebook every day.

myON provides students with a robust library of fiction and non-fiction books at all reading levels. Following a short interest inventory and reading assessment, myON will create book recommendations for students. As students read selections, they can provide a rating of the book that then informs recommendations for their own individual library of future books to read – much in the same way as Netflix creates recommendations for movies.

Additionally, though myON is an online platform, students can download books to read offline.

For more information about how to navigate myON, please reference these links:

Freckle provides students with opportunities to maintain their math skills through fact practice and to engage in additional math activities at their learning level.

MobyMax

Students completing grades K-8 have had access to MobyMax this school year to practice skills in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Students are invited to continue to use MobyMax throughout the summer.

Summer Reading Adventures with the Public Library

Barrington Area Library - Summer Reading - Ending August 19
The local libraries have designed fantastic summer reading activities to keep your child reading throughout the summer months.

Through a partnership with our libraries, students in District 21 are welcome to participate in any or all of the local library Summer Reading Programs offered in our community (Arlington Heights, Indian Trails, Mount Prospect & Prospect Heights). Your public librarians are excited and willing to help your child locate books that are at the right reading level and are of interest to your child, so don’t hesitate to go to any local library and ask for help!

On the links below, you will find Summer Reading flyers from each of these libraries, and we encourage you to visit the library for more information. Be sure your child brings his/her/their reading log or completion certificate back to school in the fall!
